Trevti Daal Recipe

Ingredients
1/2 cup split pigeon peas (toor dal)
1/4 cup split yellow lentils (moong dal)
1/4 cup split red lentils (masoor dal)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 green chilies, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
4-5 garlic cloves, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, grated
2 tablespoons ghee or oil
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Directions
- Rinse and Soak: Wash the dals thoroughly and soak them together for about 30 minutes. Drain the water before using.
- Pressure Cook: In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dals, chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, and 3 cups of water. Pressure cook for about 3 whistles or until the dals are well cooked.
- Tempering: Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Combine and Simmer: Pour the cooked dal mixture into the pan with the tempering. Add salt according to taste. Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Your Trevti Daal is ready to be served hot with rice or roti!
