Trevti Daal Recipe: Trevti Daal, also known as Three Lentil Curry, is a flavorful dish made by combining three different lentils and simmering them with spices. It’s a nutritious and comforting dish from Indian cuisine.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup split pigeon peas (toor dal)

  • 1/4 cup split yellow lentils (moong dal)

  • 1/4 cup split red lentils (masoor dal)

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 tomatoes, chopped

  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated

  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Directions

  • Rinse and Soak: Wash the dals thoroughly and soak them together for about 30 minutes. Drain the water before using.
  • Pressure Cook: In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dals, chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, and 3 cups of water. Pressure cook for about 3 whistles or until the dals are well cooked.
  • Tempering: Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté until they turn golden brown.
  • Combine and Simmer: Pour the cooked dal mixture into the pan with the tempering. Add salt according to taste. Mix well and let it simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors.
  • Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Your Trevti Daal is ready to be served hot with rice or roti!
