Palak Di Dal Recipe: Palak Di Dal is a Punjabi dish combining lentils with spinach, creating a flavorful and nutritious dish that showcases the blend of lentils and greens typical in North Indian cuisine.


  • Green Chillies :- 2

  • Red Chillies (whole)

  • Garlic Flakes :- 6-8

  • Salt to taste

  • Onions (medium) :- 2

  • Oil :- 2 tbsp

  • Cumin Seeds :- 1 tsp

  • Asafoetida :- a pinch

  • Ginger :- 1 inch

  • Turmeric Powder :- 1 tsp

  • Lemon juice :- 1 tsp

  • Green Gram Split :- ¾ cup

  • Spinach Leaves :- 15-20


  • The moong dal should be washed and boiled with turmeric powder and salt in about 5 cups of water.
  • The spinach leaves should be washed totally in cold running water.
  • They should then be roughly shredded.
  • The onions should be taken off and then finely cut.
  • The green chillies should be de-seeded and then finely cut.
  • The garlic should be taken off and cut, after which it should be kept aside.
  • The oil should be heated in a kadhai.
  • The cumin seeds and asafoetida should be mixed well.
  • The green chillies, the cut onions and the broken red chillies should be added once the cumin seeds start changing colour.
  • 10. The onions should be stir-fried till they become translucent and soft.
  • 11. The garlic and cut ginger should be cut and stir-fried for about half a minute.
  • 12. The boiled dal should be mixed in.
  • 13. It should be brought to a boil and then the lemon juice and the shredded spinach should be mixed.
  • 14. It should then be simmered for nearly 2 minutes and then served hot.
