Cuisine: GujaratiTuvar Daal Recipe: Tuvar Daal, also known as Arhar Dal, is a lentil dish made from split pigeon peas. It’s a staple in Indian households and is cooked in various styles across different regions.
Ingredients
3/4 cup washed and drained tuvar / arhar dal
1/4 cup chopped onions
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
1 green chilli chopped or split
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tbsp oil
2 dry Kashmiri red chillies
salt to taste
2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
4 crushed garlic (lehsun)
1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
4 curry leaves (kadi patta)
Directions
- Pressure Cook: Put dal, onions, tomatoes, green chili, turmeric, and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker. Cook for 3 whistles, then let the steam escape before opening.
- Combine and Cook: Add the cooked dal mixture to the pan. Stir and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on medium heat, occasionally stirring.
- Final Touch: Add coriander, mix, and it’s ready to serve hot!
